Summer is here— and there are few things sweeter than being able to bring out your outdoor furniture and enjoy the weather in Greenville, NC. There are definitely some ways to make it a little sweeter though. One way we love celebrating  Summer is by making sweet treats on the grill. Believe it or not, there are actually a lot of sweets you can make on a propane gas grill. Here are 3 of our favorite sweets to grill this spring.

1. Grilled Pineapple and Honey

Summer is in full swing and so are the honeysuckles all over North Carolina. Get something just as sweet as the nature blossoming all around you. Give this unique treat from Wine and Glue a try to get some of that sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pineapple

Instructions

  1. Grill pineapple slices over medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes.

  2. While the pineapple is grilling, mix together the honey (softened in the microwave for about 30 seconds) and the cinnamon.

  3. Drizzle the grilled pineapple with the honey and serve.

2. Grilled Peaches a La Mode

Now that summer is here, peaches are finally in season. There’s nothing like biting into a ripe peach, so you might as well celebrate it with honey grilled ones. Use this Six Sister’s Stuff recipe for some of that peachy goodness:

Ingredients

  • 4 peaches
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 4 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Vanilla Ice Cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the peaches in half and peal out the pit.
  2. Drizzle 1/2 tablespoon of honey on each peach.
  3. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 tablespoon brown sugar over the drizzled peach.
  4. Place peach flat side down on the grill at medium heat for about 4 minutes.
  5. Remove from grill and serve warm.
  6. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.

3. Donuts on the Grill

Beyond fruit, there are actually a ton of baked goods you can make on the grill. One of our favorites is grilled donuts. Use this recipe via McCormick’s to try it.

INGREDIENTS (8 servings)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp McCormick® Cinnamon, Ground
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
2 tbsps packed brown sugar
1 can (16 oz) refrigerated buttermilk biscuits, 8 biscuits

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl. Mix butter and brown sugar in small bowl. Set aside. Cut out center of biscuits with small round cookie cutter. (Or use the cap of the cinnamon bottle to cut out the donut hole. Just be sure to flour the cap to prevent the dough from sticking.)
  2. Grill donuts and donut holes over medium-low heat 4 to 6 minutes per side. Brush with butter mixture just before removing from grill. Toss immediately in cinnamon sugar. Serve with fresh fruit and whipped cream, if desired.
