There’s nothing like the taste of a baked honey ham at your Christmas dinner— so why not make among your outdoor furniture, on the grill, in Greenville, NC? It may be winter now, but you can have the wonderful taste of gas grilled food any season. We love this recipe via the Food Network to bring that wonderful grilled taste to your holiday celebrations. We don’t want to keep it all to ourselves, so here is how to grill your Christmas Ham, step by step.

How to Make a Grilled Honey Ham

This recipe typically takes 14 hours and 15 minutes, but if you’re going all out for a holiday dinner, it is totally worth it. Most of these hours will be from the ham sitting in the fridge with the dry rub the night before, so make sure you plan for that. This will serve most extended families with about 12 to 16 servings.

Ingredients You’ll Need

The Ham

  • 1 (12-14 lb) fully-cooked, bone-in ham, with preferably shank-end

The Rub

  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons brown cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

The Glaze

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 3 tablespoons chopped thyme
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

The Steps to Do It

  1. Trim the ham of any excess fat, but leave a 1/4-inch of fat on the ham. Do this by with a sharp knife and scoring the fat on the top of the ham.
  2. Place the ham on top of a large rimmed baking sheet.
  3. Now, whisk together the brown sugar, salt, black pepper, cumin, ginger, mustard powder, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Make sure to reserve a tablespoon of the dry rub mixture for the glaze. Season the ham with the remaining dry rub.
  4. Place plastic wrap over the ham and put it in the refrigerator for 8 to 12 hours. This allows the seasoning to penetrate the ham overnight to give it a much fuller flavor.
  5. Preheat your charcoal grill to 300 degrees F for indirect heat.
  6. Place the baking sheet with the ham on the grill grates, with the ham flat side down.
  7. Cover the grill and let the ham cook for 2 hours.
  8. Heat the butter, thyme, honey, vinegar, and reserved dry rub together in a medium saucepan until the butter melts. Stir this mixture together until smooth.
  9. Brush the ham with the glaze, cover with grill lid, and grill for 30 minutes more, basting the ham every 10 minutes with the glaze.
  10. Remove to a platter, let rest for 30 minutes, then carve and serve.
