If you’ve lived in North Carolina for a while, you know that each spring, a bright yellow cloud hovers over the state for a month or two. This year, the pollen seems especially bad. With pollen everywhere, you’ve probably noticed it all over your outdoor furniture, deck, porch, and patio. So, here are some cleaning tips to help you out:

  • To remove pollen from your deck and porch, you can use a broom or a garden hose. Do this every few days, or at least before you plan to spend some time outdoors.
  • You can also use a garden hose on your outdoor furniture. For harder to reach areas, use a dishcloth to wash your furniture with a solution of warm water and dish soap.
  • Before you sit on any outdoor cushions, give them a good shake to knock off any excess pollen. You’ll probably also want to wash them a few times throughout the spring.
  • If you plan on doing some grilling during the spring, be sure to give your grill a good clean before each use. When you’re not using it, cover your grill.
  • Outdoor rugs should be cleaned regularly during the spring as well. Most cloth rugs can be thrown in the washing machine. If you have rubber mats, you can use a garden hose to spray them off.
  • If any of your outdoor furniture has a glass top, you can use a glass cleaner and some paper towels to clean off any pollen.
