The official start to spring is less than a week away, and much of North Carolina is already experiencing the beauty of spring weather. If you’ve stored your outdoor furniture away, or covered it up, during the winter, now is the perfect time to get it out and prepare it for the spring and summer.

The first thing you’ll want to do is clean your outdoor furniture. If it’s been in storage or covered it, it may have accumulated dust and spider webs. Use a wet cloth or a gentle garden hose to remove any dirt and dust. Next, sit your furniture out in the sun to dry.

If your outdoor furniture has any cushions, or you have outdoor pillows, you can dust them off as well. Then, follow their cleaning instructions to see whether or not you can place them in the washing machine or if you need to clean them by hand. The same goes for any outdoor rugs you may have.

If your outdoor furniture needs a fresh coat of paint, you’ll want to sand down the surface and remove any loose paint before doing so. Then, use a paint made especially for outdoor use, and for the material of your outdoor furniture.

To clean an outdoor umbrella, you’ll want to detach it from its frame. Then, using a cleaning solution of 2 cups of warm water, 1 cup of white vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of dish soap, scrub your umbrella with a soft bristled brush. Next, clean with a garden hose and allow it to dry.

Spring is almost here, and that means that evening dinners on the deck and afternoons spent on the front porch are just right around the corner. When you’re doing all of your spring cleaning this year, don’t forget about your outdoor furniture.

For all of your outdoor furniture needs this spring, come to see us at Patio and Hearth Shop in Rocky Mount, NC.
